Realistic Fiction: Everyday people doing everyday things that did not actually take place; set in present-day
Historical Fiction: Everyday people doing everyday things, set in a time and place in the past that actually occurred
Science Fiction: Involves time-travel, robots, aliens, technology or science experiments gone wrong. Dystopian fiction is a popular example of this
Mystery: Detectives, investigations, crime scenes, mysterious event
Fantasy: Books containing magic, mythical creatures, or talking animals
Informational (Non-fiction): Provides information on a given topic
Biography/Autobiography/Memoir: The story of someone’s life. Biography is written by someone else, autobiography by the person, and memoir is a small part of someone’s life.
Poetry: Expressing thoughts and emotions in a different form or structure than prose
Graphic Novels/Comic Books: words and pictures combined to tell a story
